Dreams and disappointments

Updated 04/10/20

Marriage – A wedding is one of life’s great moments!
We are always pleased when two people decide to ‘tie-the-knot’ at St
Matthew’s. When vows are made in God’s presence in this beautiful and
sacred building, this adds a new dimension and your wedding day marks the
beginning of a new way of life, blessed by God.

To arrange an appointment to discuss your wedding plans, please use the
contact form below. We strongly recommend that you confirm the date of
your wedding with the Church before booking a reception. Please also be
aware that during significant Christian celebrations such as Easter, Christmas
and St Matthew’s tide, the Church is not available for wedding ceremonies.
However, please note that sadly we are unable to hold weddings in Church at
the present time. This is, in part, due to the current Covid 19 restrictions and
also because of damage to the ceiling in part of the building as a result of
recent storms. We are in the process of seeking the relevant permissions and
raising funds to carry out the necessary repairs. Please continue to check our
website for updates and if you have any questions ,again, please use the
contact form.

In addition, the Church of England has given this advice for couples planning a
wedding at the moment;

We very much hope that your wedding will be able to proceed, but none of us
know what the future might bring and therefore you do need to be prepared
for the fact that it might be necessary due to government regulations or
guidelines for us to cancel your wedding or postpone it. It might be the case
that your wedding can proceed, but that restrictions on the numbers who can
attend may be imposed. We may find that we cannot conduct the wedding
service that you would like because of controls on singing, bell ringing or social
distancing measures.

As a consequence, you may in those circumstances wish to postpone the
wedding yourselves. As a church we have no control over what may happen in
the future and we therefore reserve the right to postpone or cancel your
wedding should it become necessary to do so. We would of course consult you
before doing this. Given the cost of wedding preparations you might want to
consider taking out wedding insurance which might help you with the financial
ramifications of your wedding being postponed or cancelled.
