Rev'd Paula Smith
Priest in Charge
At St Matthew's our Church Warden is Heather who has a duty to represent the laity and co-operate with the incumbent (or, in cases of vacancy, the bishop). They are expected to lead the parishioners by setting a good example and encouraging unity and peace. They have a particular duty to maintain order and peace in the church and churchyard at all times, and especially during services, although this task tends to be devolved to sidesmen.
You can contact them at email@example.com
At St Matthew's we have a dedicated team of vergers and welcomers to make people feel comfortable in the Church. They have a vital role covering everything from assisting in the smooth running of church services including wedding and funerals, to greeting visitors. They also operate the sound system, ring the church bell and move furniture when necessary.
Vistitors to our church will often see vergers getting ready for a service. Help is on hand for people with additional needs, including wheelchair users and those requesting large print service sheets.
Our vergers want everyone to feel at home in St Matthew's and welcome a friendly chat about services and church facilities. Whether you are looking for some general advice or perhaps something a bit more specific, such as the best spot to take wedding photographs they are happy to help.
You can recognise them by their name badges and their friendly smiles .
